Interview: Shira Yevin Talks Gritty In Pink's Livestream Fest for Women of Color

Tonight, at 8:00 PM EST, Gritty In Pink is hosting a livestream event to highlight women of color in music! We got to talk to the company's founder, Shira Yevin, to find out more.

Jennifer Moglia: Thank you so much for doing this! Can you introduce yourself to the readers?

Shira Yevin: I'm Shira Yevin, founder of Gritty In Pink and singer of Shiragirl. My pronouns are she/her/hers.

JM: Congratulations on the Gritty in Pink Festival! I think this is an amazing idea. How did it come to fruition?

SY: This Punk Black x Gritty In Pink Collab has been in the works for a few months, since our Gritty artist Lesibu Grand introduced us to Von at Punk Black.

JM: You have a really great slate of artists here - Shenna, MEGA, MAKO Girls, Lesibu Grand, and many more. How did you choose these artists specifically? How did you find them?

SY: Thank you! This was a true collaboration between Gritty and Punk Black, we both booked the artists. Some track recommendations include "Elevator Music" by Shenna, "Exercise" by Lesibu Grand, and "Thermostat" by Mega.

JM: This event is in partnership with Punk Black and The Mad Housers. How did you choose these partners? Can you talk a bit about what they do?

SY: Punk Black is an ATL based media network featuring POC in the Rock, Cosplay Video Game and Nerd-Lore communities. They linked us with Mad Housers, who help build housing for the houseless community in Atlanta.

JM: Thank you again for chatting today! Is there anything else you want to add?

SY: Excited to share that Gritty In Pink is building INPINK.com, like a female-powered Upwork for the music industry! We are connecting industry pros who want to hire diverse women, with a community of female creators. Our mission is to achieve gender equality in the music business and eradicate the gender pay gap.

You can find out more about the event on Gritty In Pink's website.
